“Paintings have a life of their own that derives from the painter’s soul.” ― Vincent van Gogh
I am originally from the Sacramento area and have been a Plumas County resident since 2015. Though my legal name is Tina Thorman, most know me by my artist name of Trixie Hollyhox. I have been creating murals since the summer of 2020, when I began my business, Hollyhox Painting. Several of my murals can be seen around Plumas County and beyond. I have worked with acrylics since I was very young, and still enjoy painting with them on a variety of surfaces. I specialize in fantasy and scenic art, using bright colors with whimsical touches.
I enjoy hiking in the surrounding wild and scenic areas, finding inspiration and references as I explore. I have always enjoyed fantasy fiction and admit that when I look at a beautiful snowscape, or forested path, I imagine fantastical creatures or characters emerging from the scene before me. I love to include unexpected charm in my work—something that makes the viewer smile, or some touch of warmth or comfort.
I am also a first/second grade teacher at Plumas Charter School in Quincy. I have more than thirty years of teaching experience, which I use in the many paint sessions I teach around the area. I enjoy painting stage sets for the West End Theatre and have created pieces for both the community productions and the Magic Beanstalk Players, a theatre program for children.
